Bucs Win Big Series But Drop Three Spots In National Poll
A series win over a Top 25 opponent wasn’t enough to hold the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers spot in the week eight NJCAA National Rankings on Monday as despite winning three of four games, including a pair over #18 Central Florida, the Bucs dropped three spots to #10 in this week’s rendition of the National Poll.
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- A series win over a Top 25 opponent wasn't enough to hold the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers spot in the week eight NJCAA National Rankings on Monday as despite winning three of four games, including one over NJCAA DII #16 South Florida State and a pair over #18 Central Florida, the Bucs dropped three spots to #10 in this week's rendition of the National Poll.
The Bucs went 3-1 last week to run their season record to 34-10 on the year. Tuesday they cruised past DII #16 South Florida State 13-3 in an eight inning run rule before picking up an 11-5 win over #18 Central Florida in their series opener on the road on Thursday. Saturday they hammered the Patriots 10-0 in game one of their Citrus Conference doubleheader to clinch the series win and run their winning streak to nine games before Central Florida got even on the day with a 14-3 win in the series finale.
The wins give the Bucs six win over NJCAA Division I ranked opponents this season while they also have four others over NJCAA Division II ranked foes.
LSU-Eunice continued to lead the way in the week eight poll with Weatherford, Cowley and Walters State moving up spots and Blinn sliding into the #5 spot after their series loss to #25 San Jacinto. Five FCSAA teams were in the week eight rankings with Indian River checking in the highest at #7, FSW at #10, Northwest Florida and Gulf Coast at #15 and #16, and Central Florida dropped four spots to #22 after their series loss to the Bucs.
FSW is back in action on Tuesday when they go on the road to take on the top ranked team in the Division II poll, Pasco-Hernando, with first pitch scheduled for 5 PM in New Port Richey.
